Bloemfontein
Known as the City of Roses, Bloemfontein is the capital of the Free State and the judicial capital of South Africa. Mangaung, meaning "place of cheetahs," is its Sesotho name.
What used to be considered a sleepy town is now a thriving commercial centre, with an excellent infrastructure and all the amenities associated with modern city life. At the same time, Bloemfontein features peaceful, leafy suburbs and parks, and has managed to preserve a sense of its past, with many historic buildings that date back to the mid to late 1800s.
Bloemfontein properties includes a wide range of choices, from apartments and townhouses, to modest family homes, to luxury homes with pools and sprawling gardens. With its increasing popularity, the city has seen rapid growth in property development over recent years.
Bloemfontein is called the City of Roses because of the thousands of blooms that line the city during the rose season, and for its annual rose festival. Owners of Bloemfontein properties enjoy the following attractions:

- regular opera, drama, music, and ballet performances at the Sand du Plessis theatre complex, with its dramatic, plate-glass exterior
- the Bloemfontein Zoo and the Cheetah Experience in Bainsvlei, for interacting with rescued cheetahs, lions, leopards and tigers
- the leafy gardens of the Oliewenhuis Art Gallery, for a breezy picnic or a visit to the garden’s tea house
- the Naval Hill Nature Reserve, which is right in the heart of the city and provides excellent views over Bloemfontein
- the Caledon Nature Reserve, the Welbedacht Dam and the Free State National Botanical Garden, for their natural beauty and diverse plants and bird life
