Your home, your holidays: time to connect and celebrate

Your home, your holidays: time to connect and celebrate

If you’ve decided to have a staycation this year, get ready to reap the benefits! Not only does staying at home save you money, but it also gives you an opportunity to enjoy some rewarding and fun family time! Instead of spending your precious days off in cars or airports, you get to spend every moment doing things you love with your favourite people.

Jawitz Properties has put together a list of real ideas to ensure that your time at home is both festive and fun.

Colour your Christmas with fun grazing boards and get-togethers

Entertaining friends and family is one of the highlights of any staycation, and summer grazing boards are a brilliant way to serve a meal while keeping it relaxed and interactive. Level it up with a colour-themed twist: assign each guest a colour and ask them to dress in that colour and bring four ingredients that match.

Once everyone contributes, you use the ingredients to build a vibrant, multi-coloured grazing board. The colours can be arranged in festive shapes like stars, wreaths, or even simple patterns, so your board doubles as decor. It’s a playful way to get everyone involved, spark creativity and create a grazing board that’s as fun to look at as it is to eat!

Boredom-busting games

Who needs screens when you’ve got family, laughter, and a little friendly competition? Swop out phones and gaming consoles for some family game time. From card games like Rummy and Go Fish to board games like 30 Seconds, Pictionary and Ticket To Ride, there’s plenty of fun to be had in a festive-ready home. It’s guaranteed to spark giggles and a few good-natured arguments.

If the weather isn’t too hot, take the fun outside for a game of croquet, giant Jenga, bowls or beach cricket. Setting up an obstacle course in the garden is another great idea. Pool noodles, hula hoops, chairs and upturned buckets make the perfect ingredients for a DIY family-friendly challenge.

For a splash of excitement, bring water balloon games into the mix – throw, dodge and enjoy the fun chaos! It’s a real treat.

Schedule your staycation by the day

Turn a week at home into a series of mini-adventures with a staycation schedule that’s anything but ordinary!

Here are some ideas to get the ideas flowing:

Movie Monday: Let the family enjoy a couple of the festive movies currently streaming on various platforms.

Tasty Tuesday: Flip the day around with breakfast for dinner or a hands-on mini pizza decorating challenge.

Wildcard Wednesday: Anything goes! Try glow-in-the-dark games, backyard Olympics or a silly relay race using household items.

Themed Thursday: Pick a theme (pirates, superheroes or tropical beach for a few examples) and dress up, decorate and plan games around it.

Flashback Friday: Play board games, watch old favourite movies or cook meals from your childhood. It’s a fun way to pass on memories and show your kids what growing up was like for you.

Treat yourself – literally! Hassle-free holiday treats the kids can make

The whole idea here is to keep the kids busy and happy with easy, mess-free and super delicious treats they can make themselves.

Let’s start with a healthy and mess-free idea: get the kids to make fruit-and-yoghurt bark. Simply spread yoghurt on a tray and sprinkle berries, granola or crushed biscuits over it and freeze. Kids can later break it into shards when they want a snack.

For a delicious treat, try chocolate-dipped everything! Set out bowls of melted chocolate and let kids dip pretzels, marshmallows, strawberries or dried mango slices. For instant magic, add sprinkles.

Let the kids fill their own mini grazing cones with popcorn, gummy sweets, mini marshmallows and pretzels for a cute grab-and-go snack. For a healthier version, you can offer fresh or dried fruit bites, wholegrain crackers and small pieces of sugar-free chocolate.

From the Jawitz Properties family to yours, we wish you a safe, blessed and fulfilling staycation. If you’re interested in finding a new home in which to start making memories in 2026, get in touch and let’s chat.
