JOHANNESBURG – Jawitz Properties says it's taking serious action against its former employee for posting a racist comment on her Facebook page.
Penny Sparrow took to social media on Saturday and referred to black people as monkeys.
The post triggered angry responses on Twitter and various other platforms last night.
The estate agency says Sparrow has not been with the company since November, but has been using the firm’s logo on social media.
CEO Herschel Jawitz says Sparrow's comments have damaged the company's reputation and she must account for her actions.
“We will take whatever action we deem necessary, including criminal, civil or any other action to get it removed and to get her shut down. We view this very seriously, it’s a very serious matter.”
Sparrow has since removed the post from her Facebook page, replacing it with an apology saying she didn't mean to insult anyone.
