Staff at Jawitz Properties had a big surprise waiting for the 173 special needs children at Casa do Sol School on their first day back at school after the holidays. In celebration of Mandela Day, the children couldn’t hold back their joy and excitement when the Jawitz team, laden with cake, toys and party packs for each child.
“The 67 minutes flew by as we had fun playing games and interacting with the children. It is such an incredible school with dedicated, highly qualified teachers and the laughter in the playground is testament to this,” says Maughin Lord, national marketing manager at Jawitz Properties. “Our whole team thoroughly enjoyed themselves and were touched to be welcomed with so much love. Was a very special day for us!”
Jenny Drew, Casa do Sol’s acting principal thanked the Jawitz Properties team who got involved for the fun time spent with the students on Mandela Day. “What a wonderful way for us to celebrate Madiba at the start of our third term. Thank you too for the kind donation of balls, bubbles and hula hoops. Judging by the shrieks of delight, the games were certainly enjoyed by everyone!
“We are also immensely grateful to Jawitz Properties for their generosity and all the trouble the team went to in providing each student with a party pack and treated them all to a delicious cake – they will be talking about it for weeks to come! As a staff we were amazed at your interest and interaction with our special children, which is not something we see every day,” said Drew.
The Casa do Sol School in Linden caters for learners with special educational needs between the ages of six and twenty-one. Although the primary disability is intellectual impairment, the cause and nature of the learners’ special needs and barriers to learning are wide-ranging and diverse.
